Dan Akerson, who ran General Motors for less than three and a half years, issued a stern warning to Apple this week against making a car. In an interview with Bloomberg, he noted that making cars was hard. “A lot of people who don’t ever operate in it don’t understand and have a tendency to underestimate,” said Akerson, who has held no other executive positions in the automotive industry. “They’d better think carefully if they want to get into the hard-core manufacturing,” he said of Apple. “We take steel, raw steel, and turn it into car. They have no idea what they’re getting into if they get into that.
Instead, Akerson says that Apple should focus on helping incumbent automakers with in-car electronics. (That’s already happening with CarPlay, of course, but it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the number of control systems inside a modern car, most of which are still designed by automakers and their suppliers.) Akerson also noted that margins on cars are typically razor-thin, while the iPhone practically prints money.
I don’t know whether Apple will end up building a car; no one outside Cupertino really does. And I believe Akerson wholeheartedly when he says that making cars is extraordinarily difficult — but I also know that if you are an executive or ex-executive of a company that is not Apple, explaining what Apple should, shouldn’t, or can’t do almost universally backfires.
BlackBerry is clearly not happy that Ryan Seacrest is trying to convert its physical keyboard-loving users to the iPhone, especially when the physical keyboard attachment that Seacrest’s company designed as an iPhone accessory bears a striking resemblance to BlackBerry’s own keyboard designs. There’s some bad news for BlackBerry, however: Early reviews have started rolling in for the Typo and critics are deeming it a hit.
Re/code’s Walt Mossberg, for instance, found that “the Typo does its job well” while noting that “a couple of former BlackBerry addicts I spoke with who had tried it were over the moon about it.” Mossberg does knock the Typo for covering up the iPhone’s home button, but overall he concludes that “this $99 case could well be a great deal” for iPhone users who still pine for physical keyboards.
Bloomberg’s Nick Turner also criticized Typo for covering up the home button and said that it would inadvertently turn on Siri when it was in his pocket. Despite these flaws, though, Turner said that “I could see myself using the Typo” since “it definitely improved my typing precision and gave me something to discuss with strangers on the elevator.”
CNET’s Jessica Dolcourt wasn’t as positive about Typo as Mossberg and Turner were and said that “$100 is a lot to spend” for a keyboard attachment that she found difficult to use at first. However, she also said that “with a dearth of QWERTY alternatives at our collective fingertips, this one is at least a viable choice” for anyone who wants a BlackBerry-style keyboard on their iPhone.
Former Bigg Boss contestants have claimed that actress Gauhar Khan is season 7’s winner.
On Saturday, former contestant Rahul Mahajan tweeted with conviction that model-turned-actress Gauhar is the winner of the show this season.
“Friends I have a 100% confirm information that @GAUAHAR_KHAN is winning #BB7,” he wrote.
Following in the footsteps of Mahajan, notorious celebrity Kamaal Rashid Khan (KRK) also stated Gauhar is the winner.
“Gauhar has been declared winner of #BiggBoss7 just now. Shooting is still going on. She has done it by hook or crook. Congrats to Khan Sahiba,” he tweeted.
Khan went on to call the show rigged: “I declared before four days that show has been fixed and Gauhar Khan will win #BiggBoss7 and other people are telling today so they are late.”
The winner can only be confirmed tonight as the countdown to the finale continues to create quite a buzz.
While each of the four contestants’ fan bases has been rigorously voting, several predictions about the winner have been made.
As per famous astro-numerologist Sanjay B Jumani, wrestler Sangram Singh will win the show, and if not him, Tanisha Mukherji will triumph.
Interestingly, Jumani had predicted the previous seasons’ winners correctly.
Meanwhile, Gauhar’s friends are concerned that rumours of the actress winning the show might hamper her vote count.
Ajaz Khan, the fourth contestant in the finale, is banking on the popularity factor he has garnered with his rowdy antics in the show.
